Mainly though, if you are using an amp big enough to need wheels, you don't want it pointed at the crowd. I prefer to have my amp off the ground whenever possible. Focusses the sound and accentuates the low end.Īlso, idle observation, but most sound stages are made of plywood and can be like a giant drum skin/trampolene. Its like putting an open back 2x12 against a brick wall. Will anyone notice that at gig volume? Nah. Does de-coupling the amp from the floor make a difference to tone? Sure it does. Most guys don't want their amp at ankle height on-stage anyway. If you do put wheels on an amp, you will want them to be the plug in type so you can stack it. I'll buy a flight case (usually with 100mm wheels) and do it that way. If I have a heavy amp without wheels that has any inherent value (monetary or emotional) I'm not drilling her. If I buy a vintage amp with wheels, I'm generally very grateful.
